Creating Custom Blog Posts & Pages

With any membership you can create your own custom blog posts and pages. Both types of content use the same builder, and both will have a link you can share. What's the difference?

  • Blog posts can have categories and tags for organization. Blog posts can also show in feeds (pages full of thumbnails that link to blog posts).
  • Pages are typically more standalone pieces of content. (home page, contact page, pricing page etc). They can have parent and children. yoursite.com/page1/child1 and yoursite.com/page1/child2

Creating / Editing Blog Posts

  1. To use a previous post as a template hover over a blog post title and click "New Draft"  OR To start from scratch Click Posts -> Add New

  2. Give you blog posts a title - whatever is the title the first time you save/ publish the post will be used for the link.

  3. Use the Gutenberg Block editor to modify and add content. Learn the basics of the Gutenberg editor here

  4. I recommend putting each fully new section inside a row so that you can use a column layout if you like.
  5. You can do everything you need with just a few blocks. For starters stick with: Row, Header, Split Content, Paragraph, Form, Button, Image, Gallery, Cover, youtube and the reusable block labeled: Lead Magnet
  6. Keep it simple... Here might be a structure of a blog post from top to bottom.
    1. Row with Single column and a paragraph introducing the post
    2. Row with two columns: image on the left paragraph on the right
    3. Row with Single column paragraph and then an image gallery
    4. row with single column  Lead Magnet -- Reusable block
  7. Set Featured Image, Excerpt and Category. On the right hand toolbar at the top select "Document"
    1. Under Categories Choose "Blog" to show on your default blog page or create your own categories. Fewer categories is better, and select only one category per post
    2. Under Featured Image choose an image that represents the post. This will show as the post thumbnail and also the featured image on social media
    3. Under Excerpt fill in a short preview of the post that will be used as the post intro on the blog feed and when shared on social media
  8. If you added your post to the "blog" category it will show up on your built in blog page. If you used a custom category, you'll need to add a link to the category to your menu.

Editing the built in blog feed page

Wordpress by default gives each category it's own landing page... Or you can create a custom Page and use a special "post feed" block to display a feed of your posts. This gives you the opportunity to really customize the look and feel of the landing page for your blog feed.

We've created a custom page to display your blog feed. From your site dashboard look under Pages for "Blog".  Customize this page if you like. When you publish new posts as long as you add them to the "blog" category they'll show up here.
